While most countries are aggressively embracing clean renewable energy like solar power and wind power, President Trump pushed the country in the opposite direction. That made China the uncontested leader in clean energy technology, according to Energy Secretary Lucas Dekker.

“China has taken advantage of the Trump policy. They’re not only big users of solar and wind power, they’re the leader in providing that lucrative technology to the rest of the world. Trump embracing fossil fuels like coal and oil was bad for business, bad for the environment, and bad for climate change. As in other technology areas, Trump made the U.S. an example of how not to do things. The world needs energy solutions, not more problems.

“The Department of Energy will of course reverse Trump’s energy policies. Those policies would have put us in the position of eventually having to rely on China to support our energy needs. We’re determined to achieve energy independence and to regain the leadership role in clean energy technology.”
